The patches below are my collection of patches from various state departments of corrections. All states, along with
the federal government and the District of Columbia, operate a state department of corrections. They house inmates in
numerous instititions of varying security levels, along with supervised parolees finishing out their time on the streets.
As of 2002, there were over 2 million inmates housed in US prisons.
State DOCs have come a long way since the establishment of the first prisons in the US. Training and benefits have
improved, along with better built and modern prisons. Most DOCs have specialized units such as investigations, gang
enforcement, joint fugitive recovery, and special response teams.
