One of the reasons why I began to collect patches is my interest in learning about other law enforcement agencies.
It is always interesting seeing how other agencies are set up, their history, what their various units are, what their special
responsibilities are, etc. In this section of my website, I will feature a patch from my collection and have a short
summary about the agency that the patch represents. If the department being featured has a website, clicking on the
patch will lead you to the department website.
I try to publish information regarding my featured patch/agency from at least two sources. These sources can be
from the internet, printed publications, communications from members of that agency, etc. I apologize for any errors. |

Long Beach Police Department (California)
With over 900 authorized sworn officers, the Long Beach Police Department is among the largest municipal police departments
in California. LBPD is responsible for law enforcement in a diverse city of almost 500,000 people. Covering more
than 50 square miles, the city is home to a major state university, one of the largest ports in the United States (the Port
of Long Beach), a regional airport, and numerous businesses and residential areas.
The LBPD provides patrol coverage to the city from four patrol divisions (North, South, East, and West Divisions).
Officers from the patrol divisions are supported by units such as the Accident Investigation/Fleet Safety Detail, the Reserve
Unit, K9 Unit, SWAT Team, Marine Patrol Unit, the Air Support Unit, and the Motorcycle Unit.
The department's Support Bureau has several units such as the Jail Division and Training Division. The Jail Division
operates California's largest Type 1 city jail facility. The Training Division also operates the department's police
academy. The LBPD's Investigations Bureau handles a large number of investigative functions, such as missing persons,
gangs and violent crimes, career criminal apprehension, auto theft, and computer crimes.
